On Friday 14th October, Savio Salesian College was proud to welcome the Baroness Barran MBE and Vicky Beer CBE, Regional Director for the North West.
Baroness Barran is the Government Minister responsible for Academies and Multi- Academy Trusts. In July, the government announced that Savio Salesian College was just one of 61 schools nationally to be included in the Schools Re-Building programme.
Tony Costello, Headteacher of Savio was delighted with the visit. He remarked, “The visit of Baroness Barran was a real honour for the whole school community and a real vote of confidence in our school. The government has committed to a multi-million pound investment into Savio which will guarantee high quality Catholic education for generations.” The visit has coincided with the start of the preparatory work for the Schools Rebuilding Programme and the school is gearing up for an exciting time ahead.
In addition to the new build, Savio is soon to become part of the Pope Francis Catholic MAT. CEO, Andrew Dawson remarked, “I am grateful for the confidence that the Department for Education has shown for this school, our Trust and this community. Investing millions of pounds at such a difficult time is a really powerful statement of intent.”
The school is already making strides forward. Numbers in the school have risen nearly 15% in the last year and Savio, like the other schools in the Pope Francis Catholic Multi Academy Trust (St Edmund Arrowsmith Catholic Academy and Sacred Heart Catholic Academy) are to offer free uniform to all Year 7 pupils who start next year in recognition of how challenging the current situation is for all our families.
