Y10 Futsal Merseyside County Finals

Our Y10 Futsal Team competed in the Merseyside County Finals today at Wavertree Tennis Centre. We were given a very tough group draw which contained Bluecoat 'A', Prescott, Woodchurch and Calday Grammar School. The first game started well. We took an early lead against Bluecoat before they equalised shortly afterwards. A highly competitive encounter resulted in an eventual 3-1 loss but there were lots of positives to be taken for our upcoming games. This proved to be the case against Prescott. Our boys raced into a 5-0 lead before eventually winning 5-2.

Next up were Woodchurch. A slow start meant that we fell behind 3-1 and were chasing the game. However, our boys responded magnificently, and their relentless pressure saw us come out on top by winning 5-3 with our last three goals being scored in the last two minutes. That meant that we needed a draw against Calday to qualify for the semi-finals. We got off to a superb start by taking an early lead. Despite being pegged back to 1-1, we were still on course to qualify for the final stages. However, a goal for Calday in the last 30 seconds saw them win 2-1 which resulted in us finishing third in our group.

The boys gave a magnificent account of themselves today against some of the best footballing schools in Merseyside, many of whom are twice or three times bigger than ours. Our player of the tournament was awarded to Jonathan N, but all of the boys should be proud of their performances today.
